The active Couchsurfing community in Malang, Indonesia frequently meets up to share breakfast and travel stories!

We are Tangerang Couchsurfers, Couchsurfing Banten, Indonesia (a suburban city from a capital city of Jakarta). Two weeks ago we decided to meet at Cisadane River Festival, an annual festival in our small city with a row boat race and Chinese culture. We did a canal tour that only happens during the festival.

Before this event we had done a museum tour, cooking class and food festival.
This is the first time we used the Couchsurfing banner and we’re glad to promote our local community in a suburban area where most people haven’t heard of Couchsurfing. We want to continue growing this this local community. This way, our members don’t have to go to all the way to Jakarta to meet other Couchsurfers. There are unique things in the suburbs too.
Thank’s for a banner by the way!

Dear Couchsurfing team,
Bali Couchsurfers had an event on the 4th-5th of May. We went to one of the region in Bali, Singaraja, about 4 hours drive from Denpasar, the capitol of Bali. There were about 37 Couchsurfers joined for the event. We gave donations like clothes, daily needs (rice, oil, sugar) and school equipment since there are about 18 children there. It was a great weekend for sure, being able to share to those who less fortunate than us. We taught some of the kids how to make origami, and played “map world” games with the kids. There were Couchsurfers from Holland, Germany, France, Canada, Brazil, Philippines and the United States. We asked the kids to point out the countries on the map after the game. It was an indescribable feeling to see the laughter and smiles and how enthusiastic they were during our visit.
We try our best to make this event twice a year. With this event, we would like to show people that Couchsurfing is more than just a traveling community. We would like to give back to the community and show that in life, we need to share. And of course, we make new friends there.
Hope this story will inspire other Couchsurfers from any part of the world to do the same. By sharing, we feel grateful for what we have in life and by sharing we are reminded that there are people who are less fortunate. Just like the spirit of Couchsurfing itself: teach, learn and share.
Cheers,
