Week three I travelled from the Georgian/Azeri border to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. A city dripping with oil money, Baku’s roads are shared with Ladas, second hand Mercs and potholes, through which I race to get my Turkmen visa sorted and find the ferry terminal for the next leg of the journey. As with most things in post-Soviet countries, you rush to wait and wait to rush. And sometimes you get stuck on a boat for 4 days.

The first week of this crazy adventure sees me burning through Western Europe at great speed, with Ben, a French Couchsurfer living in London, riding shotgun from the start line all the way to Serbia. Dave, the 2006 Suzuki Alto I’m driving has handled the first leg of the trip well, eating up the German Autobahn and the backroads of Brussels with ease, proving that getting lost and meeting new people is part of the adventure.

Here’s where you come in! Dan is looking for Couchsurfers along the route to jump in the car for a few hours, a few days or a week to help tell the stories of the countries he’s driving through.

No time to road trip? He’ll also be looking for places to stay, so if your couch is free, send him a message via his Couchsurfing profile.
