Couchsurfers Cyrille and Ricarda wish to thank their amazing hosts they met backpacking the Americas:
“We started travelling in April in Seattle and since then, we drove all across the USA and backpacked in South America as well. All in all, we crashed on about 50 couches and every single place was a unique experience! During our half year trip we caught up so many memories we probably will remember a lifetime! Thank you guys for sharing your lives with us!”

I am a new member to the Couchsurfing community and decided to take a chance during my travels through the USA.

Upon arriving in Orlando I organised to meet my host Percy Riva. He works at the airport, so it made it easy to meet him first, in a public place to assess my gut instinct. Upon meeting Percy I was welcomed with a hug, keys to his apartment and directions. It was a brief meeting as he had to get back to work, but I felt very safe and my instincts told me this would work out fine.

When I arrived at his stunning 25th floor apartment overlooking downtown Orlando, I was blown away. There was a mattress set up for me on the floor and it was clean and modern.

I realized then that not only was I taking a chance in trusting Percy with my safety, but he was taking the chance to trust me with his home. During my stay we had some great conversations. I would have liked to have spent more time hanging out, I’m sure I’ll see him again when he decides to visit in Melbourne!

My experience didn’t end with Percy though. I had advertised on the Orlando message board that I was attending Universal Studios the next day and wanted a companion. That’s when I met Annelies Goosens, we instantly became friends and when buying tickets at the front gate the man working there asked us if we were sisters. We replied we had just met through Couchsurfing and lo and behold this gentleman, Octavius Perrington, was a member of Couchsurfing too!

Every single one of these people was kind, open, courteous, friendly and lovers of travel.

We were brought together through Couchsurfing, but stayed friends through sharing experiences together.

I hope the rest of my trip through the United States - and soon Peru - will be just as positive!
